Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Kick-Ass Heroines

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. These week, we've piled together our favourite kick-ass heroines. This is just a list of girls and women whom I think have defined the phrase 'kick-ass' through their literary battles. Enjoy! Here they are:

1. Rose Hathaway (Vampire Academy)
She is one of the most bad-ass characters I have ever read! I would never want to piss her off.
2. Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games)
This one is fairly self-explanatory. She is one heck of a survivor. With a bow.
3. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
With just her brain power and a wooden stick she could win any fight. Seriously.
4. Tris (Divergent)
When Tris joins the Dauntless faction, I think she absorbs the meaning of 'dauntless' and takes it to a whole new level.
5. Celaena Sordothian (Throne of Glass)
The land's most accomplished assassin that comes in a deceptively adorable little package!
6. Isabelle Lightwood (Mortal Instruments)
She kills demons. With a whip and witty tongue while wearing heels!
7. Katsa (Graceling)
She is bestowed with the powerful ability to kill and she uses it as the ultimate weapon. Yikes.
8. Eowyn (Lord of the Rings)
She is no man!!! Just a witch-king killing machine.
9. June Iparis (Legend)
In Legend, June is rather book smart rather than street-wise, yet I still wouldn't want to get on her wrong side!
10. Yelena Zaltana (Poison Study)
She is such a witty and abrasive person. Not to mention her extremely epic magical ability.

Top Ten Tuesday: REWIND: Sequels I'm Dying to Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week, we are holding down the rewind button! We got to pick a topic we either missed out on or wanted a second go at. I chose a topic I didn't get to do the first time around.

I've picked out a selection of my top ten sequels I can't wait to read! None of these have been released yet and some don't even have confirmed titles! So, here they are:

1. The Shadow Fold (Grisha Trilogy #2) by Leigh Bardugo
I haven't reviewed this yet on my blog, but I am so desperate for more!

2. Shades of Earth (Across the Universe #3) by Beth Revis
The end was a pretty steep cliffhanger. I'm sort of bummed about the cover revamps, but once I get my hands on it I'll feel better.

3. City of Heavenly Fire (Mortal Instruments #6) by Cassandra Clare
This series has been a fantasitic staple on my shelf. I can't wait to read the final one. Maybe she'll announce another three?

4. Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky #2) by Veronica Rossi
I need to know what happens with Aria and Perry! What do you think of the UK cover?

5. The Eternity Cure (The Blood of Eden #2) by Julie Kagawa
LOVED this gritty vampire book more than I expected and I gotta get more of it!

6. Requiem (Delirium #3) by Lauren Oliver
We all know how much we were left hanging at the end of Pandemonium! The UK cover isn't out yet, so feast your eyes on the US version!

7. Throne of Glass #2 by Sarah J Maas
Guys. This book = love. I haven't reviewed it yet on this blog, but with no title and no sign of a cover, I'm ready to wait in line for it!

8. Boundless (Unearthly #3) by Cynthia Hand
What a fantastic trilogy. The last book was heartbreaking and I'll be sad to read the next one. I'm eager to see what the UK cover looks like, but here's the US version.

9. Divergent #3 by Veronica Roth
Not a whiff of the title, but I can't wait to pre-order this baby because of that ending.

10. Reached (Matched #3) by Ally Condie
I wasn't totally thrilled with Crossed, but something makes me think I've been promised one heck of a conclusion to this series. Fingers crossed!

Link me to your TOP TEN! I can't wait to see what topic you chose!

Top Ten Tuesday: 'Older' Books I Don't Want People to Forget About

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week, we are professing our loves for our top ten 'older' books we don't want people to forget. We get to classify how we define 'old'. I think my books I've mentioned are at least two years old, if not decades old. If they are part of a series, that series has ended. So, here they are:

1. The Uglies Series by Scott Westerfield

2. The Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead

3. The Princess Bride by William Goldman

4. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine

5. Poison Study by Marie V. Snyder

6. The Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling

7. The Abhorsen Series by Garth Nix

8. The Giver by Lois Lowry

9. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle

10. The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander

Sometimes, I feel like I keep repeating myself in Top Ten Tuesday. I guess I'm just consistently passionate about the same books!

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Confessions

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week, we're revealing our top ten bookish confessions! These are my confessions (*cue Usher*):

1. In school I said that I read the Grapes of Wrath. But I didn't. I'm not a Steinbeck fan and have you seen the size of that book?! I took a 'B' in that class that semester because of my pride. Ha.

2. During my undergrad years I used to keep my library books in my car. Sometimes I'd forget and I would return them to find a $40 fine. Whoops! (Don't tell my mom.)

3. When I attempt to read more than one book at a time, I leave the first one in the dust. I don't know if it's actually possible for me to read more than one novel at a time.

4. When I lived at my sorority a few years ago, many of the girls would read series like The House of Night. I own like 6 of those books because of that weird (and momentary) obsession.

5. Because my friends were into it, I said I like the Twilight 'saga' more than I actually did.

6. I wrote Harry Potter fanfiction in a bright blue notebook when I was 15... and 16... and 17.

7. In high school, because a lot of my friends were super religious, I said I didn't enjoy reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower. But I loved it.

8. This isn't a confession (because I'm proud of it), but while writing my dissertation for grad school, I actually maxed out on the number of books you could check out. And that's a lot.

9. Some days, I'm not sure if book blogging actually reflects my efforts. I may not be top dog, but I put in tons of effort and I put myself out there to no avail. I have to remind myself at the end of the day that I do it for me.

10. Since I started blogging, I actually feel pressured to get more books. I kind of dread my weekend book hauls. I think that's why I have accumulated 18 more books than my TBR pile can handle in less than 6 months. This is a lot for me! (Not to say I don't like having books).

Top Ten Tuesday: My Favorite Books I've Read During the Lifespan of My Blog

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week we're listing our favorite books we've read since we've started to keep a blog.

Though I've only been blogging since March, the list was easy enough as I only really have rated about 10 books with 5 stars since! I haven't book them in any particular order as it would be too difficult to decide! So here they are:

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
This book is fabulous. I love that it's a sci fi dystopian with an almost fantasy element to it. And you just have to love Perry. Awesome start to a hopefully awesome series.
My Review

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
Instantly, I fell in love with this dreary post-apocalyptic world of vampires. While it is vampires, it sure as heck isn't unoriginal by any means.

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
This book is magic. The absolute beauty of the writing and the story easily have this book on my top favorites.
My Review

A Million Suns by Beth Revis
I could not put this book down. Spaceships, a looming second earth, and mystery?! I liked Across the Universe, but I fell in love with A Million Suns!
My Review

Legend by Marie Lu
Another dystopian. I loved the characters and the concept. It was just one of those novels that you can't believe is a debut.
My Review

Starters by Lissa Price
An exciting sci fi and dystopian world where kids have their bodies rented. Creepy. I can't wait to see how the story ends!
My Review

Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
I've loved every book she's put out so far and Bitterblue was no exception. I love strong willed characters and fantasy and you've just got to love this book.
My Review

Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver
I was intrigued by Delirium but blown away by Pandemonium. I can't wait to see what the last book has for us!
My Review

Hallowed by Cynthia Hand
I wasn't sure that Unearthly was that original, but I was proven wrong in Hallowed. Fantastic book! Fantastic series.
My Review

A Witch in Love by Ruth Warburton
This is another sophomore book that blew me away. Yeah I loved the first book, but A Witch in Love knocked my socks off. More people should read this series. Give it more love!

Top Ten Tuesday: Book Romances That Would Make It In The Real World

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic are book romances that I think would actually make it in the real world.

Most book romances started because of extreme circumstances that pushed the two together and I'm just not sure that they'd actually survive without that. However, I do know a few that I think would really make it in the real world. I've only chosen five because I didn't want to talk about couples I didn't actually believe in.

1. Ron and Hermione (HP series)
These two developed some crazy feelings for each other over a very long time. They also bicker adorably and I see this as being such a realistic romance! I'm sure everyone else will too.

2. Clara and Tucker (Unearthly)
If Clara was just a regular girl, I really do think they'd have a great romance in the real world. They complement each other! However, back in their paranormal world, I'm actually team Christian.

3. Alec and Magnus (The Mortal Instruments)
Deep down, past the warlock and shadowhunter business, they're just an absolutely adorable couple who just want to be together. I actually just want them to have a normal real world relationship. :)

4. Katsa and Po (Graceling)
Though they went through quite a lot before they fell for each other, I think that if they were just two normal people they'd still be together. That's when you know a fantasy romance is great!

5. Alex and Lena (Delirium)
If they hadn't been forced to have a secret relationship, I really do think it would have gone somewhere. They're another couple I think deserves a chance in the real world!

So what do you think?

Top Ten Tuesday: Posts That Give You The Best Picture of Me

Welcome to the weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week we were to create a showcase of the posts that give you the best picture of me. I'm such a new blog that I don't think I have too many posts that really showcase who I am as a blogger, especially because I leave most of my personal life out of it. Nevertheless, here are some good posts that might tell you more about me!

1. My Top Ten Facts About My Reading Life: This is a totally silly post that will give you a great picture into my crazy reading habits.
2. My Review of Insurgent by Veronica Roth: This review was such a hard one to get my feelings under control, as it was my most anticipated book release of the year!
3. My Review of Glitch by Heather Anastasiu: I highly anticipated reading this book and it was a difficult review to write because of my slight disappointment.
4. My Feature and Follow Friday #5: This post asked me about my favourite literary mother, and I wrote a little ode to my momma in it.
5. My Review of Bloodlines by Richelle Mead: I think this one shows that I'm not afraid to be an honest book reviewer.
6. My 'About Me' Page: This may be cheating, but have you checked it out? You'll find out quite a lot about me. *nudge nudge*

So that's it for now! I think all of the posts I make are a reflection of myself, whether I'm giving my honest opinion or letting you know the quirkier side of me. Let me know what posts reflect you!

Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I'd Like to (Not) Switch Places With for 24 Hours

Welcome to the weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. You guessed it. This is where I post my Top Tens of the week's chosen subject, Top Ten Characters You'd Like to Switch Places With for 24 Hours.

I feel like this is a hard one. With most protagonists or characters in general, I don't exactly envy their situations even if I enjoy reading them. I think maybe I'll cheat with this one and give you a list of my top ten characters I'd rather NOT switch with.

1. Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games)
Uh, yeah. Nearly starving and then having to fight to the death- I don't think so.
2. Bitterblue (Bitterblue)
Her dad was a serious psycho. I'd rather not have those memories.
3. Jonas (The Giver)
That is some serious weight to have put on the shoulders of a pre-teen. I don't want to be a vessel of memories and emotions!
4. Yelena (Poison Studies)
Yeah, she was imprisoned and tortured. No, thanks.
5. Frodo Baggins (Lord of the Rings)
Being charged with the desperate task of carrying a (seriously messed up) piece of jewellery across the known world... hmmm, no.
6. Zoe (Glitch)
I don't fancy having a computer system hooked up to my brain.
7. Day (Legend)
He's the number one most wanted criminal in the entire republic. I just wouldn't want to live up to that reputation!
8. Allie Sekemoto (The Immortal Rules)
She's a vampire surrounded by people who hate vampires! And she has to sleep in the dirt.
9. Ana (Incarnate)
Just about everyone in her city hates her or is scared of her. What kind of life is that?
10. Thomas (The Maze Runner)
Imagine being placed in a murderous maze with absolutely no recollection of your life before that. That's why I won't trade places with him!

All of that made me realize what a huge square I must be! I think I'm just meant to read about adventures, not be faced with the sort of adversaries book characters are faced with!

Who would you switch or not switch with?

Top Ten Tuesday: Books If You Like Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Welcome to the weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. You guessed it. This is where I post my Top Tens of the week's chosen subject! This week's subject is Top Ten Books For People Who Like 'X' Book. I chose Across the Universe by Beth Revis. It's the first book in one of my favorite current series. It's so good!

I know this isn't the most original post for me, but I just love all of these books! I chose them to go with Across the Universe by Beth Revis because they have science fiction or dystopian elements about them. They just happen to be some of my top reads this year (except for Uglies which I read ages ago).

Top Ten Books if you like Across the Universe by Beth Revis

1. Starters by Lissa Price
2. Inside Out by Maria V Snyder
3. Legend by Marie Lu
4. Matched by Ally Condie
5. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
6. Uglies by Scott Westerfiled
7. Divergent by Veronica Roth
8. Partials by Dan Wells
9. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
10. Incarnate by Jodi Meadows

Top Ten Tuesday: Facts About My Reading Life

Welcome to the weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. You guessed it. This is where I post my Top Tens of the week's chosen subject! This week was a freebie. I chose to tell you a little bit more about myself. We probably have a lot in common! Here are the top ten facts about my reading habits or life. Who knows, maybe it's interesting?

1) I get most of my reading done on my lunch break, waiting for the bus, or to occupy myself while my man's at work.

2) The first chapter book I remember reading and obsessing over was The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary.

3) I can't bend the spine. Ever. Just no. It's why I don't like people borrowing my copies. They always come back with that horrible line down it!

4) In elementary school I would purposely not turn in my homework (that I had actually completed) because I wanted to go to Recess Room. We went there to be 'punished' by being 'forced' to read or do homework instead of go play at recess. I read. They had some awesome books to read!

5) I can't read while in motion. I wish I could read in the car or on the bus, but it's impossible. Even the train is a bit iffy.

6) I hate movie covers or covers that mention the movie and I generally obsess over making sure a series I own all have the same cover design and are the same size. I hate putting those small and fat paperbacks with the tall hardbounds. My newest fear since moving to another country is mixing US covers with UK covers.

7) I probably read about 2 books a week and listen to one audiobook. I read pretty fast, but I don't want it to consume my whole life. The second I feel like I have to read, it becomes non-enjoyable.

8) While I really like pretty book covers and snappy summaries, I usually read my books based on recommendation. I'm very seldom impulsive at the book store. Yet I'm still that one person who spends 2 hours in there and comes out with one book.

9) My favorite type of books are paperbacks. Especially ones that aren't glossy or slick and feel pretty sturdy. If they're printed in Garamond along with the aforementioned prerequisites I nearly faint with happiness. Is it normal to have a favorite font?

10) The majority of my books are in my old room at my parents' house in California. One day I really want to unite my two collections.

Do we have anything in common? Let me know!

Top Ten Tuesday: Books for Those Who Like Maria V. Snyder

Welcome to the weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. You guessed it. This is where I post my Top Tens of the week's chosen subject! This week, we're recommending books based on an author. So, if you like Maria V. Snyder, I've got ten books for you to check out!

While I've not read every book written by Maria V. Snyder, I have liked everything that I have read so far. I really enjoyed her Study series, Glass series, and her Inside Out books. Since her works are quite diverse, dabbling in fantasy and science fiction as well as crossover and YA series, I think there's something for everyone. Also, if you like any of the books below, you should definitely give Maria's books a try!

1. Sabriel by Garth Nix
The beginning of a strong fantasy series with a likeable heroine that reminds me of Opal from her Glass series.
2. Across the Universe by Beth Revis
This book has a futuristic dystopian theme just like Maria's Inside Out books.
3. The Gemma Doyle Series by Libba Bray
This series has fantastic world building like Maria's Study series.
4. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
Graceling stars a kick-butt heroine whom I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of just like Yelena from the Study series.
5. Warrior/Witch by Marie Brennan
Magic and some serious fighting skills combine in these two books just as they do in the Study and Glass series.
6. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
Another fantastic futuristic dystopian, though with a tad more romance.
7. Divergent by Veronica Roth
This is also a strong dystopian and Tris' character transformation reminds me of Trella from the Inside Out books.
8. The EarthSea Cycle by Ursula Le Guin
This is a fantasy staple. I think fans of the Glass series would really like it.
9. The Alchemyst by Michael Scott
There's quite a bit of action in this. If you want to read the Study or Storm series but don't want to leave the YA genre, I recommend this series.
10. The Gathering Dark by Leigh Bardugo
I have yet to read this, but I have a feeling that there is quite a bit of mystery like the Study series.

Top Ten Tuesday: My Summer TBR List

It's been awhile since I've participated in Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by The Broke and The Bookish). Mainly because I felt I didn't have anything to contribute to the topics in previous few weeks. Anyway, here is the part where I tell you my Top Ten Books on my Summer TBR List. Enjoy! :)

1. For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund
Ever since I put this on my wish-list I knew I had to save this for an awesome summer read.

2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
The summary is just so epic. The reviews are epic. I need this. Bam.

3. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I need to see what the fuss is about! Can't wait to pull this out on my e-reader and relax.

4. Defiance by C.J. Redwine
Like Throne of Glass, this book promises to be an epic read with an awesome heroine.

5. Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
I still need to pick this book up. I read the other two books from the Graceling world while camping, making Kristin Cashore's books scream summer to me.

6. A Witch in Love (Winter Trilogy #2) by Ruth Warburton
I loved the first instalment and I can't wait to pick up the second.

7. City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments #5) by Cassandra Clare
This book has been sitting on my shelf since it came out and I need to give this awesome series some love.

8. The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
I read The Immortal Rules recently and I love Julie Kagawa's work. So I need to read all of her other books. ASAP.

9. ReVamped by Ada Adams
This book promises to be a great vampire book. And my summer needs one of those!

10. A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire #2) by George R.R. Martin
This book has been gathering dust because I keep convincing myself that I don't have time for it. I need to find the time for this epic saga.

Wowzers! There's a lot of fantasy on this list. What a perfect summer genre, though! What are you going to read this summer?

Top Ten Tuesday: Favourite Quotes from Books

In this weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, I've made my list of my top ten quotes from some of my favourite books. I'm really bad at choosing quotes. While I'm reading I often stop and think how magical a line was, but I quickly forget where or what it was after finishing the book. Luckily, we have the internet!
 1. “It is our choices, Harry, that show us what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling
 2. “You love me. Real or not real?" I tell him, "Real.” - Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
 3. “This thing all things devours: Birds, beasts, trees, flowers; Gnaws iron, bites steel; Grinds hard stones to meal; Slays king, ruins town, And beats high mountain down.” - The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
 4. "Not my daughter, you bitch!" - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling
 5. “It's so strange how life works: You want something and you wait and wait and feel like it's taking forever to come. Then it happens and it's over and all you want to do is curl back up in that moment before things changed.” - Delirium by Lauren Oliver
 6. “I have a theory that selflessness and bravery aren't all that different.” - Divergent by Veronica Roth
 7. “For the first time, he heard something that he knew to be music. He heard people singing. Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps, it was only an echo.”- The Giver by Lois Lowry
 8. “The early summer sky was the color of cat vomit.” - Uglies by Scott Westerfield
 9. “You can't force love, I realized. It's there or it isn't. If it's not there, you've got to be able to admit it. If it is there, you've got to do whatever it takes to protect the ones you love.” -Frosbite (Vampire Academy) by Richelle Mead
 10. “I might be in love with you." He smiles a little. "I'm waiting until I'm sure to tell you, though.”  - Divergent by Veronica Roth
What quotes did you choose?

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I'd Like to See Made Into Movies

In this weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, I've made my list of my top ten books I'd like to see made into movies. This list will include movies that are already optioned or in production since I have yet to see them! One little disclaimer, though: I don't think every book would make a good movie, but I've included books with plots I think could be adapted or have a setting that would be breathtaking to see.
 1. Divergent by Veronica Roth
 2. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
 3. Delirium by Lauren Oliver
 4. The Hobbit by JRR Tolkein- I can't wait to see it!
 5. The Host by Stephenie Meyer
 6. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
 7. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
 8. The Uglies by Scott Westerfield
 9. Matched by Ally Condie
 10. Partials by Dan Wells
What do you think of my list?

Top Ten Tuesday: All Time Favourite Characters

This is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week I've listed my Top Ten All-Time Favourite Characters! In some ways, creating this list was so easy, but also so hard! I didn't want to leave anyone off. Ten is such a small number! Okay, well here they are:

 1. Ronald Bilius Weasley (Harry Potter series)- My favourite character from my all-time favourite series! Ron is the funniest supporting character. He's loyal and brave, too! Who wouldn't like that?
 2. Tris (Divergent Series)- Tris is my favourite female lead. She's such a strong character but knows how to be vulnerable. Let it be known that I can't wait for Insurgent!
 3. Rubeus Hagrid (Harry Potter series)- Yeah yeah, another HP character! I can't help it! I love Hagrid. I even have my fuzzy plushie of him.
 4. Peeta Mellark (Hunger Games)- Peeta is such a loveable and commendable character! His feelings for Katniss are so sweet and believable.
 5. Wanderer/Wanda (The Host)- I love how interesting an alien can be and that's just what Wanda is!
 6. Aragorn (Lord of the Rings)- There's no one more epic than Aragorn. He's swoon-worthy and virtually fearless!
 7. Meg Murry (Wrinkle in Time)- I've always related to Meg and her social awkwardness. Her character was a great comfort to myself when I was much younger.
 8. Perry (Under the Never Sky)- Very few times have I read a story with alternating views into the eyes of the love interest and actually been enthralled. I love Perry!
 9. Fire (From Seven Kingdoms)- I don't think I've ever read a character quite like her. She's pretty darn complex being vulnerable and resolute at the same time. Plus, she's a monster.
 10. Tally Youngblood (The Uglies)- When I was reading this series, the entire time I thought that we'd make good friends. She's as normal as someone in her situation could be, but she has an adventurous side.
Which characters are your top ten?

Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Were Totally Deceiving

This is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week I've listed my Top Ten Books That Were Totally Deceiving (those covers or titles that don't fit the books, a book that was totally different than its summary, or those books you thought were going to be fluff that turned out to be more serious etc etc.)

 1. Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi: The premise of this book seemed a little weird to me. When I bought it, I knew it was some Science Fiction meets fantasy. The UK cover doesn't really do the premise justice, but I really was blown away by how well the story worked! It's one of my favourites of the year.
 2. Stardust by Neil Gaiman: This was one book I read after viewing the film. That was a huge mistake. I thought the original novel would have the same light-hearted humour and spirit the movie did. I was wrong. I did not like the book at all. Nope.
 3. Poison Study by Maria V Snyder: This was one of the first books I bought for my e-reader way back when. The cover wasn't fantastic and the premise seemed a little cheesy, but I took a chance. The selection for the Sony Reader Store wasn't fantastic then. I'm glad I took the chance! It's one of my favourite series!
 4. Sabriel by Garth Nix: The cover of the edition I own does not do this book (and series) justice. It's much more exciting than the cover leads you to believe.
 5. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: Before I read this book I was really wary of the hype. I had some interesting friends read this book who hardly ever pick up this book. I was worried it wasn't what others said it was. I was wrong. I eat my words!
 6. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand: I previously did not enjoy angel stories and the premise seemed a bit Twilight-esque. However, I couldn't ignore the rave reviews and I'm glad I didn't!
 7. Firelight by Sophie Jordan: The crazy premise of humans having a dragon form of sort was a bit weird to me. I got the book on sale and bought it because of the pretty cover, I think. It actually pleasantly surprised me. It was better than the summary.
 8. Marked by P.C. Cast: I got into this series during my vampire phase. I had nothing but high hopes for this series because I loved the premise of a vampire school. I gave up after a few books and turned to the much better series of Vampire Academy.
 9. A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray: The title of this book is really kinda cool. It and the cover drew me into this read, but I'd say the title was an odd choice. It doesn't necessarily reflect the book in my opinion, though A Great and Terrible Beauty was mentioned in the book.
 10. Maze Runner by James Dashner- The book is very different from the synopsis, as I read an edition released after the Hunger Games. It was advertised as being similar to The Hunger Games. I didn't buy it for that, but after reading it, I'd say that the statement was really off. The summary and advertisements were much different from the book, especially the ending.

Top Ten Tuesday: Spring Fever: Book's I'd Play Hooky With

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Here's the schedule. This week it's all about books I'd drop everything and read for the day. :)
 1. Insurgent by Veronica Roth- Let's just say that I will be playing hooky the day this book is released!
 2. The Giver by Lois Lowry- You can read it in a day and it's such a powerful book! My first dystopian.
 3. The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien- I must reread this book this summer in preparation for the movie. I'd love to sit out on the beach and read but I don't live in California anymore! I'll have to make do with medieval ruins. Oh darn.
 4. Unearthly by Cynthia Neely- I'm reading this now and I wish I had the whole day today to finish it. Great stuff so far.
 5. Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver- Just to go a long with Delirium, I need to take a day out real soon to read the second book! I can't wait... Must stick... with... queue.
 6. The Princess Bride by William Goldman- I've read this book and it is so hilarious. If you liked the movie and don't mind a narrator that gets really off topic, then you'll like this book!
 7. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen- This book just reminds me of sunshine (even though it's set in gloomy England). I spent quite a lot of time reading this and Emma (which I don't like) on a beach trip.
 8. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince- This is my favourite HP book! I do sort of want to spend the whole day trying to reread the series, but I've got loads of other stuff to read and do. That's life.
 9. The Uglies by Scott Westerfield- The start to one of my all-time favourite series and one full of rebelliousness!
 10. The Host by Stephenie Meyer- The movie teaser reminded me how much I liked this book! It reminds me of camping. Probably because the first time I read it I was living in a tent for 3 weeks without bathing properly.

Top Ten Tuesday: Spring Reads

This is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week I'm listing my top ten books I'm looking forward to reading this Spring. Some of them are new, while others have been in my book queue for awhile.

 1. Insurgent by Veronica Roth (released May 1, 2012)- I am so excited for this series' second instalment! I've been waiting for months and I can't get over how amazing the first book was. No brainer, my most anticipated read.
 2. City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare (released May 8, 2012)- Sooo ready to read this book!
 3. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi- I've heard nothing but great things about this book!
 4. Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver- I finished Delirium this weekend and the cliffhanger ending is killing me!
 5. Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris (released April 24, 2012)- The reviews are coming out and it looks like a stunner!
 6. Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore (released May 1, 2012)- Third instalment in her sort-of triology and I've been waiting since Fire!
 7. Above by Leah Bobet (released April 1, 2012)- Can't wait to read this. The cover totally draws me in.
 8. A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin- I've been meaning to read the second book in the series since I finished Game of Thrones in November.
 9. Incarnate by Jodi Meadows- The premise of this book just sounds amazing!
 10. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand- I ordered this book (I know, finally). I've been meaning to, I swear!
What do you think of my list?
